Some Breeders referred as Backyard Breeders but mixed breed

One of my friend Volunteer is at an animal rescue or shelter. Honestly, I agree with hispoint, although I do believe that his statistics may be a little off. It’s just sad seeing wonderful animals sitting in those shelters and you just know next week they’ll be in the freezer. I volunteer at a no-kill animal rescue that pulls from the shelters. It’s so hard helping people to understand why we fix the animals before we adopt them out. Some people just don’t care about the homeless animal population. Some people just don’t know about it.

I have seen reputable breeders who breed AKC purbred to breed/show standards and many do it out of their homes. I have also seen people who breed mixed breeds out of their home under the same conditions. So why are BYB’s only labeled as such for breeding mixed breeds when many “reputable” breeders breed out of their homes as well?

Breeders selling available young dogs

Some people are just ignorant of how them letting their cat get pregnant once just so their kids can witness the miracle of birth basically sentences 6 cats to death in the shelter. I always tell people that if they want to see the miracle of birth, they should foster a pregnant cat for a rescue.

My rescue is ALWAYS looking for more foster homes. It’s just a sad situation though because I feel like we’ve made progress in the last 50 years, but it still isn’t near enough.

What can be the reasons why breeders sell their young dogs? I am looking for a good GSD breeder and am interested in older dogs ?

Right age to sell according to breeders

I feel they are treated more as prized possessions, than loving family members. Also, I’ve never read a breed standard that states that breeds original purpose was to circle the show ring. I find it unnatural.

All I care about, is that the dog is as close to the breed standard as possible, and raised in a warm and caring environment. I can ascertain that myself.

My sister is getting a dove this week, we forgot to ask the breeder exactly how old they are. I know they are babys, typically how old are doves when breeders let them go?

Good resource to find reputable dog breeders

Attending dog shows in your area is a good way to meet breeders in your region. If they are not actively in the ring or preparing to go in the ring, they are usually happy to talk about their dogs.

I provide my vets name and number, and testimonials of past buyers, I also give out numbers to my club and then have a contract for the potential buyer to ensure the dog has a good home, and I have a clams that if they cant care for the dog for any reason I will take it back.

I would like to find some breeders in my area, but I am not really sure where to start. Would the vet be a good resource? Is there a website?

Will good breeders list their puppies on puppyfinder

Breed rescue can easily be found pretty much anywhere if you look good enough. What breed are you looking for? Just put the breed and rescue in a search engine and the state you are in and usually it will pop up with a site with contact information. Good breeders have to be located — there are tons of people who profess to be good ones but most aren’t. Most of the breed clubs will have breeder referals but even among those you will have to do your homework and weed out the millers.

I am looking for another puppy, and the breed I am looking for I am having a difficult time finding a breeder/rescue locally. Will a quality breeder list their pups on sites like puppy finder? I worry about mass producers using these types of sites to sell their animals, but I may have to get my puppy this way. Are their any breeders out there that can tell me if they would list on a site like this?

Difference between backyard breeders and reputable breeders

Mixed bloodlines will usually have just two breeds and have the papers to prove that they are the exact breeds you are looking for. A lot of people seel puppies cause their dog ended up getting bred by a dog they weren’t the owners of and are just trying to get rid of them cause they are not pure breeds. Just have to ask for papers and do some research to find the breed you are looking for.

A reputable breeder has no need to list their puppies on puppy finder, because they have people waiting in the line to purchase their dogs. It’s not uncommon to wait 2-3 years for a puppy from a good, reputable breeder.

I would like to get a mixed dog breed and I’ve noticed there are a lot for sale and I need help finding out which breeders are good and which ones are bad.

People blame breeders for all the dogs in shelters

We are a small show home which is guilty of breeding! We have eleven Yorkies. All loved, spoiled, and very well taken care of. By and large the people who buy show quality or show lines of any breed.

Are not the people who are looking for a pet out of a shelter. I love all animals and yes the shelters are heart breaking. But my point is, bad pet owners are the problem not breeders as a whole. And I am not talking about puppy mills. That is a different subject.

Were all great breeders not a novice breeder Someday

Not all novice breeders are backyard breeders. But most novice breeders don’t do their research or know the breed standard. I owned and showed Jack Russell’s for years before I decided to breed. I researched pedigrees, did genetic testing, found out what problems are common in what bloodlines, and how to find dogs to compliment each other.

I researched for almost two years before I decided to have my first litter. A good breeder will breed to improve upon a breed, not just to have puppies or make money.

If a novice breeder has done their homework and is well educated, why are they considered a back yard breeder. Don’t all good breeders have to start somewhere.I do not breed and never plan to breed, but I was just wondering.

I am an animal advocate, and believe in animal rights, and serve my time to help the abused animals.
