Breeders looking for in Stud dogs and their owners

October 14th, 2009

I have been searching for a breeder for my dog, and we have finally contacted one through email. We have only exchanged a few emails, but I want my dog to be in good condition if we ever do breed him. So what are breeders looking for in Stud Dogs and there owners?

Of coures they look for breed standards and a professional stud owner but what else?

Dog breeders around and inside Wyoming

October 13th, 2009

Personally, I think if you want a mutt, go to a shelter. I am sure you will be able to find a pup there that would suit you. Why pay good money for a mutt from the so called “breeder”.

They are more than likely wanting decent homes for the pups and are not out to make a profit. They realize the pups are mutts, and therefore not worth hundreds of dollars.

What dog breeders are found around and inside Wyoming? I prefer to find these dogs :

Old English Sheepdogs
German Shepherd
White German Shepherd
Chinese Crested
Golden Retriever

Thanks!
What if I am from Cheyenne?

Reptiles breeders have low standards Do they

October 11th, 2009

A responsible dog or cat breeder is expected to dote constant attention on their animal and treat it just as they would a non-breeding animal.

It’s much more expensive to buy one from a “breeder” and pay for the spay/neuter yourself, all the shots, etc. The shots are taken care of at the shelter.

However, many reptile breeders have such large facilities they have to hire people (in the dog/cat world this would be called a puppy/kitten mill) just to get work done. They’re kept in pretty small tanks, some even without hides. Can someone please explain this?

Breeders accepting Credit Cards

October 10th, 2009

I would imagine that it is very common among good breeders. They have a good line going and don’t want it ruined by some backyard breeding scum who has no idea what they’re doing.

There are many concerned that puppy mills are purchasing the dogs, so they are only allowing them to be registered with Limited Registration with the AKC.

Out of curiosity, what do you think of breeders who handle only one breed of dog and take multiple credit cards, not simply paypal. I’ve been a lot of website where credit cards are taken, so I was just wondering your thoughts.

How Breeders with 10 females move all those dogs

October 9th, 2009

I’m not talking about puppy mills, I’m talking about professional breeders who sell their dogs for between 1 and 2 grand.

Some will be too young to breed and are working on their championships. and growing out until they are 2 years old and can be tested. Some of those may fail and not be bred at all. Usually a good breeder will retire a female at 5 or 6 years of age.

Usually people who breed so many puppies are well known among others involved with the particular breed and will get referrals from all over the country, and often even from foreign countries. Despite the fact that they sell so many puppies, these breeders aren’t making much profit, if any. Breeding dogs is just a hobby for them; their actual income comes from their day job.

Is their really a market for people who sell on average 80 dogs a year?

Why Breeders refuse that

October 5th, 2009

I have noticed a number of people with stories about how they tried to purchase an uncropped, undocked dog from a breeder, but were turned down because the breeder demanded that the dog’s body be docked or cropped.

What is your opinion on cropping and docking? Why do breeders refuse to allow their dogs to go uncropped or undocked? Would you ever request an uncropped/undocked dog?

To find dog breeders in your area

October 4th, 2009

In my county alone there are four pounds. Each takes in approx. 32 animals each day. That’s 132 animals coming into the pounds DAILY. They almost have to euthanize them as fast as they come in because there aren’t enough cages or homes for them all. And you want to encourage MORE breeding?! Grow up. There are thousands of dogs that fit your criteria. Give one a good home.

I am interested in getting a dog, probably a Chihuahua or some mix of one.I have looked online but I can’t find anything about specific locations of breeders.

I live in the Los Angeles area, so if anyone know a website or some other way of finding out about breeders please let me know.
I’ve already been to the shelters near me but I’m interested in getting a 4-5 month old puppy anyway.

Difference between keeping and selling Dog Breeds

October 1st, 2009

I’ve heard people say things like,

“I bought my dog from a reputable breeder, but he is not show quality. The breeder kept the show quality pups that were eventually going to be used for breeding.”

At such a young age, how is it possible for breeders to tell which pups will develop faults and which will go on to become breeding quality dogs?
How accurate can an experience breeder be by examining a potential pup? Because puppies change as they grow.

Some Breeders referred as Backyard Breeders but mixed breed

September 25th, 2009

One of my friend Volunteer is at an animal rescue or shelter. Honestly, I agree with hispoint, although I do believe that his statistics may be a little off. It’s just sad seeing wonderful animals sitting in those shelters and you just know next week they’ll be in the freezer. I volunteer at a no-kill animal rescue that pulls from the shelters. It’s so hard helping people to understand why we fix the animals before we adopt them out. Some people just don’t care about the homeless animal population. Some people just don’t know about it.

I have seen reputable breeders who breed AKC purbred to breed/show standards and many do it out of their homes. I have also seen people who breed mixed breeds out of their home under the same conditions. So why are BYB’s only labeled as such for breeding mixed breeds when many “reputable” breeders breed out of their homes as well?

Breeders selling available young dogs

September 21st, 2009

Some people are just ignorant of how them letting their cat get pregnant once just so their kids can witness the miracle of birth basically sentences 6 cats to death in the shelter. I always tell people that if they want to see the miracle of birth, they should foster a pregnant cat for a rescue.

My rescue is ALWAYS looking for more foster homes. It’s just a sad situation though because I feel like we’ve made progress in the last 50 years, but it still isn’t near enough.

What can be the reasons why breeders sell their young dogs? I am looking for a good GSD breeder and am interested in older dogs ?
